MONT-BLANC : THE SUSTAINABLE FACE

First Edition: Welcome to Sustainable mobility!

For many years now, the Chamonix Mont Blanc valley has been considered a fore-runner in the establishment of innovative solutions for sustainable development.

Many scientific programs have been developed to better understand the evolution of natural habitats and territorial demands, alongside management models which value this exceptional area.

Over the past twenty years we have organised the Festival of Earth Science and Humankind. The most recent edition focused upon life and offered the public a fascinating sequel to the French Conference for Biodiversity organised by Chamonix’s Minister of Ecology. Important reflections have also been happening in the framework of Tourism Summits which, during 9 years, from 1999 to 2007, have allowed experts from across the world to share their experiences.

Today, we wish to persevere with these investigations and make tourism and sustainable development converge, through the creation of a new event : ‘Mont-Blanc’ : the sustainable face’. This demonstration is part of the global process taken by the Chamonix valley.
